Frequently Asked Questions

Can I work part or full time and still be a part of ACA?

Because of the time commitment required from both student and parent during the week, instructing duties and spending all day with us on community day, Amicus families with two full time working parents is not common. Most families have one parent who works full time and one that focuses on schooling the kids. Feel free to contact us with any questions.

Is ACA a drop off Co-op?

No. All students have their parents here with them each week.

Can I enroll my student in just a couple ACA classes?

No. Amicus is a full academic co-operative.

Can I use Amicus as a supplement for the curriculum I already use?

Amicus was built to serve as a full academic curriculum for homeschooling families. Using Amicus as a supplemental addition to your student's primary curriculum is not what Amicus is intended for, and it changes the culture of our co-op work from "required" to "optional."

Please note that all students will need a formal at-home math curriculum, and kindergarten - 3rd grade students will need a formal at-home language arts (reading & spelling) curriculum.

How can I know if ACA is a good fit for my family?

Families who are drawn to the Classical Philosophy of Education, are able to share their gifts with a community, and want to have the camaraderie of teaching and learning together (both the students and parents) under a common curriculum thrive in our community. Often, families with older children are intimidated to join an established group of other teens, but find that if the other pieces fit, the social aspect of their teens being held accountable for their schoolwork and having friends working on the same things during the week is an incredible blessing. Families with multiple very small children (oldest child is 4-6yo and other children are 4 and younger) are sometimes overwhelmed by the parent workload and length of the day and would do well to wait until their children are a little older.

Amicus has a lot of veteran homeschoolers, and we are always more than happy to help you think through joining or not joining Amicus. We also know of other options in the area and are never opposed to pointing you in what might be the right direction for you. We always love to chat with those walking this road too, but just a few years behind us.
